Camp Follower Bags and Quilts

Sewing Practices

I would love for you to know a bit of my sewing background. My mom is a great seamstress, as was her mom and my great grandma before her. I come from a long line of seamstresses. Quilting was a big part of going home to see my grandma. She had a special yellow quilt that she finished before she passed away and I can remember laying on it tracing the patterns with my finger. I loved all the different fabrics and textures. That memory has always stood out to me about her…not so much her, but what she left behind, a piece of her to comfort us.

I want my sewing to be like that for you. I want it to be a piece of history to be loved and passed down. I want it to MEAN something to you. In our disposal culture it is important to have things that are made with love, things worth cherishing. Things made slowly, one at a time by hand. Things that will become a part of your life and will last. I put a great deal of thought into each item that I make. I also invest a great deal of resources.

The quality of the materials I use is the best. I order my fabric yardage in small quantities so I can keep my look fresh and exciting. I only use natural products when possible. I love Cottons and linen, texture and drape. I use long staple cotton thread; organic cotton batting and 200 thread count muslin. Each item in my studio has been hand picked by me…each thing is some thing I would love to create with, a small stack of fabric waiting patiently for it’s potential to be revealed

I love what I do. I have a drive within me to create and this is my outlet. Thank you for the opportunity to sew for you.

I use two different Bernina sewing computers (Artista 165 and 640). They are incredible sewing machines, and make sewing a joy. They are top of the line machines and their stitch quality is unsurpassed.

After 6 years of making bags and quilts for other military families and teaching classes I have hundreds of hours of quilting experience. Each piece I quilt free hand on one of my Berninas. I would love to have a long arm, but for now we just don’t have the space.

The pictures above are of my little sewing studio. It was going to be a guest bedroom, but we figure no one in their right mind is going to travel this far to see us, so I claimed it for myself. My husband built me the shelves and tries to help me stay organized. He is my biggest supporter, and my Quality Control Officer. He is also the inspiration behind my Camp Follower Bag and Quilt business.
